pelagic brewing is an adventure that started at sea.

Ben and Josh Weber, brothers who had been home brewing for years, were sailing down the coast of Washington State, headed from Port Angeles to the Portland area, when Josh floated the idea of getting serious about making the beers that they loved, but had a hard time finding.

When they found their way up the Columbia River, they invited Coreen, a longtime collaborator and fellow devotee of both beer and the sea to join.  Josh’s wife, Christina, completed the quartet.  They settled on the name Pelagic, which means “relating to, or living in the open sea,” and also happens to be the name of the sailing vessel upon which the brewery was born.

    HEAD BREWER

Favorite Beer: Day Shapes IPA (Check out the Citra and Mosaic hops)

Best Nautical Adventure: Communing with the whales off the coast of the Olympic National Park

Background: Ben worked in food service for many years while brewing his own beer.  Like many brewers on the west coast, he started brewing to explore his love of Cascade hops.  While that first love has never faded, Ben now builds beers that showcase the massive range of locally grown humulus lupulus. His favorites are Simcoe, Mosaic, and Citra, which feature prominently in Pelagic IPAs and pale ales.

Background: Christina, a former real estate attorney and busy mom, sampled beers all over the northwest, always looking for a chill spot with a place for kids to play while Mom relaxed with a clean, bright, and refreshing pint.  While she found plenty of good options in coastal towns up north, She couldn’t find the perfect location near home - so she decided to make it.
